Immaculate Conception

Tis the season of Lent, and with that is my quest to fill myself with my faith.

A re-post from my old blog.

We attended a holy mass in celebration of the feast day of the Immaculate Conception when Mary accepted her mission with trust and readiness, even if she didn’t quite understand the reason. It’s the same thing when we were given circumstances in life that tries our faith.

The homily of tonight’s holy Eucharist was one of the most beautiful homilies I’ve heard ever since I came here in Texas. It felt like I was back home and hearing how heartfelt the homily was, it made me long for more. I felt the hunger for the Holy Spirit inside and I don’t know how to direct that hunger.

Going back to circumstances, Fr. Cedric’s words were in my head – God answers all prayers. With Him, nothing is impossible. That we have to understand that sometimes, His grace and guidance doesn’t change the circumstances, but He changes what is in us. Meaning, He guides us to change our perspectives allowing us to be flexible in times of hardship. He goes on to say that nothing is impossible to God, to God everything is possible.

I read the daily scripture from the Passionist website (given by Fr. Cedric) and now I understand God’s reason for Mary. In the bible chapter of Genesis, we are created. But human as we are, we have sinned and we were cursed when we disobeyed God. Mother Mary was able to reverse that curse when she accepted God’s mission. In her simple gesture of complete acceptance, God granted us grace. I like to emphasize these words from the reflection: Mary is the vessel of salvation. Mary then intercedes and helps us in our hope to receive grace. And God’s grace we receive because we have Mary.

Because of this, I believe that when a mother prays for her children, her prayers will always be answered. Even if the circumstances do not change, something definitely will.

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with you
Blessed are you among women
And blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God
Pray for us sinners
Now and forever, Amen.
